Award-winning Liberian director and cinematographer Gerald K. Barclay has premiered a new documentary, “The Assassination of William R. Tolbert Jr.”, at a film festival in Johannesburg, FrontPageAfrica reports.
The film examines the events of 12 April 1980, when soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia stormed the Executive Mansion and killed President Tolbert, Liberia’s 19th president.
According to the report, the coup ended more than a century of Americo-Liberian political dominance and marked a turning point in the country’s history.
