Richard Ngafuan, Director General of the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services, has urged caution over how artificial intelligence is used in statistical data collection, FrontPageAfrica reports.
He spoke on 5 October at the opening of a week-long Leadership and Statistical Management Training in Monrovia for managers of national statistical systems across ECOWAS member states.
According to the report, Ngafuan said technology could help or harm statistical work depending on how it is applied. His remarks emphasised improving collection practices so that regional policy decisions rest on dependable data.
The report concerns a discussion of responsible technology use, not the launch of a new LISGIS AI system. The original coverage provides the full context of the training and his remarks.
